Lady Chargers Open 2019 Season with Back-to-Back Wins

VENTURA, CA – The Cypress College women's soccer team (2-0) opened the 2019 season with two victories in two games at Ventura College. The Lady Chargers picked up a 4-1 season opening win on Thursday over College of the Canyons, followed by a 1-0 victory over San Francisco on Saturday.

Four different Chargers found the back of the net against the Cougars on Thursday. Sophomore Audree Campos netted the first goal of the season (3:40) to give Cypress a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Morgan Patea (7:20) and freshman Hunter Richmond (14:50) each added goals in the first half to take a commanding 3-0 lead early in the game.

The Cougars answered with a Brook Chambers goal (29:00) before the break, making it a 3-1 game at the half.

Cypress' Nicolle Valdez put a fourth goal past the keeper (47:51) early in the second half on the second assist of the game from Kelly Lopez. The Chargers' defense held strong as they went on to win 4-1.

It was a battle against the Rams on Saturday as both teams struggled to create scoring opportunities in a physical defensive matchup. Patea broke the tie late in the game on a well-played ball from Taleah Carter (85:40) to secure a 1-0 Cypress victory.

Cypress College women's soccer will return to action in their home opener on Wednesday, September 4 against Long Beach City College at 3:00pm.
