Freshman women's soccer standout, Kelly Lopez, earned her first career Charger of the Week Award during Thursday's practice. She is just the second women's soccer player to earn the award this season.
Lopez has been a huge presence on a stingy Cypress defense all season long. The Pacifica High School alumna helped lead the Chargers to a 1-1 record in their two games last week. In the team's road win on Tuesday against Santa Ana, Lopez anchored a defense that allowed no goals and only four shots in a 1-0 victory.
The Chargers' defense has given up just 17 goals in 13 games this season, for an average of 1.31 goals allowed per game this season, which ranks a respectable 29th out of 89 teams. The women's soccer team is currently 6-4-3 overall and 4-2-2 in OEC play headed into the second round of their conference schedule.
