Dominant First Half Lifts Chargers Past Pirates, 2-0

COSTA MESA, CA – The Cypress College women's soccer team (5-3-3, 3-1-2 OEC) picked up a much needed 2-0 win on the road over the Orange Coast College Pirates (3-5-2, 2-4 OEC) on Friday afternoon. The Chargers now sit in the third slot of the OEC standings.

Cypress dominated the first half, scoring each of their two goals in the first 45 minutes of game action. Freshman defender Jordan Barber opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, sending a ball past Pirates' keeper, Cindy Suarez, to take a 1-0 lead. Freshman forward Audree Campos found the back of the net for a fifth time this season on a beautiful pass from Kelly Lopez in the 41st minute.

Orange Coast would challenge the Cypress defense in the second half, getting of 4 shots and earning 4 corner kicks in the half. However, sophomore keeper Tabatha Macedo came up with 3 big saves, earning her fifth clean sheet of the season.

Women's soccer will return to Orange Empire Conference action against the Santa Ana Dons at home on Tuesday, October 2. Game is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
