Cypress Chargers Women’s Basketball Concludes Impressive 2024-25 Season with Deep Playoff Run
Chargers Finish Strong with Second-Place Conference Finish and Deep Playoff Run
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress Chargers women's basketball team wrapped up the 2024-25 campaign, finishing with a 21-9 overall record and a 9-3 mark in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play, securing second place in the OEC. Under third-year Head Coach Brittany Imaku, the Chargers earned a No. 5 seed in the 3C2A SoCal Regionals and advanced to the Regional Final.
The team's postseason journey began with a second-round home victory over East Los Angeles College (80-60) before falling in a hard-fought battle against No. 4 seed Glendale College, 55-50, in the Regional Final. Cypress was one of five OEC teams to qualify for the postseason.
Coach Imaku, known as "Coach B," was named OEC Coach of the Year, earning the honor for the first time in her career.
Season Highlights & Key Performers
The Chargers opened the season on a high note, going undefeated at the Fresno Crossover, securing wins over Sierra, Fresno City, and MiraCosta. They finished as runner-ups in their annual Charger Classic, defeating Grossmont and Palomar before falling to Moorpark in the championship. Cypress also had strong showings in the Buddy's All-Star Classic, where they took down Mt. SAC and LA Valley but lost a close game to Long Beach City, and the San Jose Tournament, where they made it to the title game after wins over Siskiyous and Mission but ultimately fell to San Jose, 49-44.
In conference play, the Chargers handed Orange Coast College its first OEC loss with a thrilling 73-69 victory and closed the regular season with their longest win streak of the year, winning seven consecutive games leading into the postseason.
Individual Accolades
Several Chargers earned postseason recognition for their standout performances:
- Christaesha Jackson – OEC Defensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-OEC, CCCWBCA All-State Second Team
- Kalysa Ng – First-Team All-OEC
- Journie Hayden – Second-Team All-OEC
- Chelsea Caldera – Second-Team All-OEC
Jackson, a dominant 5'10" guard, was a force on both ends of the floor, ranking third in the OEC in rebounds (295) while averaging 9.6 points per game and shooting 44% from the field.
Ng, the team's floor general, provided elite playmaking, leading the team in assists (76) and steals (61), while scoring 292 points on the season.
Hayden and Caldera were also key contributors, with Hayden tallying 242 points and 167 rebounds, and Caldera finishing as one of the team's top scorers with 323 points, shooting 35.8% from the field.
With a strong foundation in place, Coach B's leadership and the team's competitive drive have set the stage for continued success in the seasons to come.
