Chargers Punch Ticket to State Tournament with Clutch 2-1 Win Over Saddleback
Cypress Advances to the State Tournament Starting May 15
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College softball team is heading back to the 3C2A State Tournament after securing a hard-fought 2-1 win over Saddleback on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Chargers clinched the Super Regional series and continue their quest for redemption after finishing as the state runner-up in 2024.
This marks the program's 9th consecutive state tournament appearance (not including COVID seasons), continuing a remarkable streak that dates back to the 2014 season. The Chargers will now aim to bring home their 11th state title in program history.
Offensively, Cypress was led by Carly Parmenter, who drove in both runs for the Chargers. Parmenter tied the game in the third with a perfectly placed bunt single to score Nanea Kyle, and later gave Cypress the go-ahead run with a clutch sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh—again scoring Kyle, who went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored.
Cypress collected 10 hits on the day, including a perfect 3-for-3 performance from Madylyn Wynia and a 2-for-4 outing from Mickayla Galaviz.
UP NEXT: The Chargers now set their sights on the 3C2A State Championship Tournament hosted at West Valley College on May 15-18.
