WALK-OFF THRILLER: Chargers Edge Rustlers 7-6 in CypCity Comeback
Madylyn Wynia Calls Game with Walk-off in the Bottom of the 7th
CYPRESS, CA – In an electric finish at home, Cypress Softball walked it off in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Golden West 7-6, capping a back-and-forth battle in Orange Empire Conference play.
The Chargers struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on a defensive miscue by the Rustlers. The momentum carried into the second, where Cypress put together a rally fueled by more Rustler errors and an inside-the-park home run by Makayla Motis, who rocketed one to deep right and rounded the bases to bring in both herself and Nanea Kyle, giving Cypress a commanding 5-0 lead.
Golden West responded in a big way in the top of the fifth, erupting for six runs on a flurry of hits and timely walks to take a 6-5 lead — their first of the game.
With two outs in the sixth, Kyle drew a walk and Motis came through once again, crushing a shot to right-center for a clutch RBI triple to tie the game at 6-6.
After a quick three-out defensive stand in the top of the seventh, the Chargers were ready to seal the deal. With two on and the outfield pulled in, Madylyn Wynia read the defense and launched a ball to the far left field wall for a walk-off double, bringing home Monique Rojas and securing the 7-6 victory for Cypress.
Motis finished the game 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, a triple, and an inside-the-park homer, while Wynia and Galaviz each added key RBIs. On the mound, Haley Tucker earned the win, going the full 7 innings with 1 strikeout and 12 hits allowed.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will look to carry this momentum into the final games of conference play against Golden West. Cypress will host the Rustlers on Tuesday, April 22 at 2:00 pm.
