Chargers Softball Season Comes to a Close in the CCCAA Quarter Finals

BAKERSFIELD, CA- The Cypress Chargers were one of four teams left standing when they entered Saturday's game versus Sierra College. Cypress defeated Sierra in round one of the CCCAA state tournament on Thursday, but the Wolverines got their revenge on the Chargers with a 4-2 victory to keep their championship hopes alive. 

The CCCAA State Tournament consisted of 8 teams with a double-elimination bracket format to determine the 2022 State Champion. The tournament began on Thursday, May 19th where the Chargers took the victory over Sierra College, 8-5. Cypress' next test was against San Mateo College on Friday afternoon. The Chargers had a 3-2 lead heading into the 5th inning, but they were unable to hold on as San Mateo won 7-3. The Cypress loss would send them into the losers bracket forcing them into a second game on Friday night. 

Cypress and San Jose City would matchup to fight for their playoff lives with first pitch taking place at 8pm. The Chargers were not ready to go home as they went full domination to defeat the Jaguars 10-0 in five innings. The win set up a revenge matchup for the Sierra Wolverines on Saturday afternoon. 

Sierra jumped out a 1-0 lead in the first innings and never looked back. Emily Rush tied up the game with a solo home run in the top of the third inning, but the Wolverines grabbed the lead right back in the bottom of the inning. The Chargers would rally in the top of 7th, but it was not enough as Cypress would come up short, 4-2.

The Chargers fanatastic season comes to a close after 37 wins. Coach Brad Pickler says, "We played well and I am happy that our team came this far. The kids played hard and we will be back next year!"
