Softball Punches Their Ticket to State!

Softball Punches Their Ticket to State!

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers (35-13) hosted the Palomar Comets (34-9) in the CCCAA Super Regional on Saturday, May 14th. Cypress entered the day with a 1-0 series lead, but punched their ticket to the State Tournament with a huge 10-2 victory in game three.

The Chargers and Comets found themselves in a game two battle as they were grid locked 1-1 for most of the game. Cypress came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh. Eliza Sandoval and Paige Shafer both popped out to the third baseman to keep the Comets hopes alive. The game would continue into the 10th inning before Palomar's Hannah Beyer doubled to left field scoring Kelly Nutter. Elisa Haas knocked in one more run to extend the Palomar lead to 2 and force a game three for the series.

Cypress came out angry in game three as Eliza Sandoval (1-for-3) doubled in Eliana Mora to score the first run of the game. Palomar answered with 2 runs in the second, but the Charger bats stayed hot as Cameron Curiel (1-for-3, 3 RBI) knotted the game back up at 2 runs a piece. After a scoreless third inning, Cypress would tally 4 runs in the fourth inning as Cameron Curiel drove in 2 more runs. The Chargers would pour it on in the fifth inning as Paige Shafer singled to right field scoring 2 runs and enforcing the eight run mercy rule. Just like that the Chargers are headed back to the State Tournament!

The CCCAA 2022 State Tournament will be played at Bakersfield College beginning Thursday, May 19th. The double-elimination official bracket will be released over the weekend.
