Chargers Advance to Round 2 with 3-1 Victory

CYPRESS, CA- #3 Cypress Chargers softball came out victorious in round one of the CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs. The Chargers won games one and three of the three game-series to advance to the next round.

Cypress entered Saturday with a 1-0 series lead on #14 Imperial Valley. The pitching duel would continue in games two and three as two of the best pitchers in the state, Emily Rush and Yeraldine Carrion, would face off. Carrion and Imperial Valley would upset the Chargers in game two, 1-0, after Camila Carrasco scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning. The Cypress bats were shut down as they only recorded one hit in game two.

Game three was a different story as the Chargers began to wear down Carrion. Although Imperial Valley struck first with a run in the second inning, Cameron Curiel scored on an error to tie the game up at 1. Eliza Sandoval and Camryn Addimando would push across two insurance runs for Cypress in the sixth inning as Cypress would lead going into the final frame, 3-1. Taylor Marini (Imperial Valley) would single in the seventh inning to put the pressure back on Cypress, but pitcher Emily Rush would get two fly outs to end the ball game.

UP NEXT: Cypress will host round two of the SoCal Regionals on Friday, May 13th. Next rounds opponent is to be determined.
