Chargers Take Game One of So Cal Regional, 2-0

CYPRESS, CA- #3 Cypress Chargers softball hosted #14 Imperial Valley for the first game of the three game series in round one of the CCCAA So Cal Regionals. Cypress was led by the Orange Empire Conference MVP, Emily Rush, who took the Chargers to a 2-0 victory.

The Chargers knew they were in for a pitching duel with Imperial Valley, but Emily Rush (2-for-2, BB) did more than pitch for Cypress. Not only did Rush throw 7 shutout innings, but she also hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third to give Cypress their first lead of the game. Emily Rush had as many hits herself as she gave up in the pitching circle (2) as she was virtually unhittable. Paige Shafer also notched 2 hits for Cypress as the Chargers were able to put pressure on Imperial Valley's, Yeraldine Carrion. Carrion threw a fantastic game striking out nine batters and only allowing 1 earned run through her 6 innings pitched.
