Cypress Comes Up Short in OEC Championship, 3-2

CYPRESS, CA- The #1 Cypress Chargers hosted the #2 Santa Ana Dons for the OEC tournament championship on Wednesday, April 27th. The Dons knocked off the Chargers, 3-2, in a thrilling game as they were crowned tournament and conference champions.

Cameron Curiel (1-for-2, HR) played the game of her life for Cypress as she came up with three huge plays for the Chargers. Emily Rush (7.0 IP) pitched a fantastic game, allowing 3 runs in the first inning, but held the Dons scoreless through the final six innings. Camryn Addimando went for 1-for-3 on the afternoon with an RBI. Emily Rosas of Santa Ana was excellent in the circle for the Dons as she pitched seven innings while allowing 4 hits and striking out 3. Rosas also had an RBI in the game as she did it all for the Dons.

Santa Ana hopped on Cypress quickly in the first inning scoring 3 runs on 5 hits. Emily Rush got through the first two batters with ease, but the Dons strung together 5 consecutive singles to get out to an early lead. After an excellent play in centerfield, Cameron Curiel got the offense started in the bottom of the third inning with an electrifying inside the park home run. The speedy sophomore slapped a ball down the left field line and made it to home plate standing up to put the Chargers on the board. Camryn Addidmano singled to left field in the bottom of the fourth to bring Cypress within one.

The Dons were sniffing another run in the top of sixth inning as Vinnie Robles stood on second with 0 outs. Alexis Rangel singled to centerfield, but Cameron Curiel came up throwing as she gunned down Robles at home plate. The Chargers would get out of the sixth inning without giving up a run. Emily Rosas was unhittable the final three innings as the Chargers went down in order, nine up and nine down. The Dons would wind up winning the game, 3-2, becoming the 2022 OEC champions.
