Chargers Split Double Header With Fullerton

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress Chargers softball (11-4, 10-4 OEC) fell to Fullerton (15-3, 15-3 OEC) in their first of two games on Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers bounced back in game two defeating Fullerton, 14-6, in five innings.

GAME 1

Emily Rush pitched for the Chargers and gave up five hits over seven innings. Paige Shafer (1-for-3) and Sarah Duran (1-for-2) were the lone bright spots for the Chargers on the offensive end. Fullerton's Casey Dufrene (1-for-3, 1 RBI) and Madison Pevehouse (1-for-3, 1 RBI) led the way for the Hornets after knocking in the only two runs of the game. 

In the bottom of the second, Paige Shafer singled to left field and advanced to second on an error by the left fielder. Sarah Duran singled to right field in the bottom of the seventh and got on base, but the Chargers were unable to push a run across the plate. The Hornets proved tough competition to the Chargers scoring a run in the first and second innings. The low-scoring game kept the Chargers on their toes as they fought their way back from the Hornets' two-run lead, but was unsuccessful and fell, 2-0. 

GAME 2

Camryn Addimando (2-for-4, 3 RBI) led the Chargers offense along with Paige Shafer (1-for-3) who notched two RBI's. Eliza Sandoval (2-for-2, 2 runs, 1 RBI) was perfect at the plate. Fullerton's Natalie Gonzalez (1-for-2, 2 runs) led the offense for the Hornets.

The Chargers came to play for the second game of the afternoon. After the Hornets put up three runs in the top of the first, Cypress responded with three runs in the home half of the inning. Paige Shafer started the Chargers scoring run after hitting a sacrifice fly to left field allowing Emily Rush (2-for-4, 2 runs) to score. With bases loaded, Emily Adkison (1-for-4, 1 RBI) singled to center field allowing Alyssa Huerta (2-for-2, 3 runs) to score, and again when Camryn Addimando (2-for-4, 3 RBIs) singled scoring Adkison. In the third inning, Jordan Thompson (2-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 runs) doubled to center pushing Cameron Curiel across the plate. The Chargers would put up three runs in the inning and tack on two more in the fourth. Cypress ended the game on a pinch-hit single by Aubrey New that scored two runs allowing the Chargers to pull ahead by eight runs. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers will be traveling to Fullerton this Friday, 5/14, to close out the four-game series with a doubleheader. First pitch will be at 12pm.
