Chargers Bounce Back in Game 2 After Falling in Game 1 to Santa Ana

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress Chargers softball (10-1, 9-1 OEC) suffered their first loss of the season to Santa Ana College (6-5, 6-4 OEC) in their first of two games on Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers nine-game winning streak was broken after losing to the Dons, 3-1. The Chargers bounced back in game two defeating Santa Ana, 9-0, in five innings.

GAME 1

Emily Rush (2-for-3) scored the Chargers lone run during the first game after homering in the bottom of the sixth. Eliza Sandoval started on the mound for the Chargers and gave up seven hits over seven innings pitched. Airilin Ramirez (3-for-4) led the way with two RBI's for Santa Ana. 

The Chargers and Dons were tied for the first half of the game with Santa Ana starting their scoring run in the top of the fifth. Airilin Ramirez of Santa Ana doubled to left field which drove in two runs for the Dons after Eveline Nava and Kayla Avina scored. In the bottom of the sixth, Emily Rush hit an impressive home run over the left field wall putting the Chargers on the board. The Chargers sought redemption against Santa Ana and came out strong during the second match of the afternoon.

GAME 2

Emily Rush (1-for-2) and Jordan Thompson (1-for-3) led the Chargers offense scoring two runs each. Alyssa Huerta (2-for-3), Sarah Duran (1-for-2), Eliza Sandoval (1-for-2), Cameron Curiel (1-for-2), and Camryn Addimando (1-for-3) each scored runs to give Cypress an impressive lead over Santa Ana. Eliza Sandoval led the Chargers with two RBI's and was followed by Aubry New (1-for-2), Sarah Duran, Alyssa Huerta , and Emily Wagenbrenner (1-for-1) who each earned one RBI during the game. Emily Rush did it all for Cypress starting the game on the mound throwing 4.2 shutout innings and giving up two hits. 

The Chargers played to their strengths and came back hard during the second game of the afternoon. Jordan Thompson started the Chargers scoring run after singling to the pitcher allowing Emily Rush to advance to third and Cameron Curiel to score on the throw. The Chargers put up six runs going in the fourth inning with key plays made by Alyssa Huerta and Sarah Duran in the bottom of the third to push the Charger offense ahead. In the bottom of the third, Sarah Duran singled and advanced to second on an error by the left fielder, earning an RBI after Alyssa Huerta and Jordan Thompson scored.  

UP NEXT: The Chargers will be traveling to Santa Ana this Friday, 5/7, to close out the four-game series with a doubleheader. Cypress will face off on the field against the Dons starting at 12pm.
