Chargers Out Pitch #1 Mt. Sac, Win 2-1

CYPRESS, CA- The #4 Cypress College softball team (11-0, 5-0 OEC) hosted the #1 Mt. Sac Mounties (13-0) on Thursday afternoon. The Chargers' pitching was tremendous as Cypress went on to win in a tight game, 2-1.

The Chargers leaned on their All-State talent to push them past the Mounties. After trailing 1-0 in the first inning shortstop, Lesley Bojorquez, doubled to deep left field to give the Chargers a 2-1 lead in the third inning. 2019 Pitcher of the Year, Janea Brannen, was lights out on the mound throwing 6.2 innings of one hit softball. Brannen pitched to contact and allowed her defense to make plays. Right fielder, Cameron Curiel made a spectacular play in the 6th inning to rob a leadoff double from Mt. Sac. Brannen set down 12 straight batters as the Mounties did not reach base after the third inning. Brannen's performance looked effortless as the Chargers may have made a bid to become the new #1 team in the state. Cypress came into the game #4 in California and #2 in Southern California.

UP NEXT: Cypress softball will play in a double header on Saturday, February 29th. They will travel to College of the Canyons to take on El Camino and Canyons.
