Cypress College softball standout, Janea Brannen, earned her first career Charger of the Week Award following Thursday's victory over Santiago Canyon. She is the first softball player to receive the award this season.

Brannen is 7-1 with 4 complete games in the circle this season. She earned victories over Orange Empire Conference opponents, Riverside and Santa Ana.

Brannen started off the week with a 6-4 (8 innings) victory over Riverside on Wednesday. She allowed just 1 run, while notching 4 strikeouts in 8.0 innings of relief for the Chargers. She also went 1-for-4 with an RBI at the plate. She followed that up by tossing 4 shutout innings in a 10-0 (5 innings) victory over the Dons on Friday. Brannen also finished 2-for-2 with an RBI. 

The Chargers' softball team is currently ranked No. 2 in the state, according to the most recent 3CFCA Coaches Poll, with an overall record of 11-1 and a leading 5-0 record in Orange Empire Conference play.
