Chargers Golf Finishes 4th at State Championships
Cypress Chargers Golf traveled to Soboba Hot Springs GC in Mt. San Jacinto seeking their second State Championship in four years. Chargers golf finished 4th place (734) behind Reedley (730), Saddleback (722), and 2022 State Champion College of the Canyons (720). Folsom Lake's, Giacomo Sorrentino, took home the individual state title wih a score of 139 while Cypress' Devin Schaffer finished one-stroke back in second place.
MT. SAN JACINTO, CA- Cypress Chargers Golf traveled to Soboba Hot Springs GC in Mt. San Jacinto seeking their second State Championship in four years. Chargers golf finished 4th place (734) behind Reedley (730), Saddleback (722), and 2022 State Champion College of the Canyons (720). Folsom Lake's, Giacomo Sorrentino, took home the individual state title wih a score of 139 while Cypress' Devin Schaffer finished one-stroke back in second place.
The 36-hole Championship was played on Monday afternoon where Cypress' tough first round (371) put them behind the eight ball for the rest of the tournament. College of the Canyons got out to a fantastic start shooting 358 in the first round where three of their players shot one-under par (71). Willis Panzarello led Cypress in round one with a two-under 70 followed by Devin Schaffer who carded a 71. Saddleback's, Clayton Smith, finished with the lowest round of the day (68).
After trailing first place by 13 strokes at the conclusion of round one, Cypress knew they needed to make an adjustment heading into round 2. The Chargers were able to shave off 8 strokes headed by a miraculous 69 from Devin Schaffer. Ivan Sablan came to play in round 2, carding a 70 and improving his score by 8 strokes of his previous round. Cypress improved their play as did the rest of the field. Saddleback finished with a 359 in round 2 while Ventura and College of the Canyons both scored a 362. Cypress and Reedley were just one stroke behind as they both finished with an impressive 363.
