Cypress Defeats Cuyamaca, 77-63
Great defense and highlight plays leads to a Cypress win at home.
CYPRESS, CA — The Cypress College men's basketball team (7-3, 0-0 OEC) delivered a strong all-around performance Friday evening, pulling away in the second half to earn a 77–63 victory over Cuyamaca (4-6, 0-0) at Cypress College.
The Chargers set the tone early, shooting over 52 percent from the field in the first half to take a 35–27 lead into the break. Cypress continued to apply pressure offensively after halftime, outscoring the Coyotes 42–36 in the second half to secure the win.
Michael Wright led all scorers with a dominant night, finishing with 25 points on an efficient 8-for-12 shooting, while also pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. Wright was aggressive inside, creating second-chance opportunities and anchoring the Chargers' presence on the glass.
Cypress saw balanced scoring contributions throughout the lineup. Lincoln Dean added 11 points off the bench, shooting 5-for-8 from the floor, while Jack Rivera chipped in nine points, six rebounds, and two assists. Forwards Hayden Roberts and Amaan Zavahir combined to add 12 points, with Zavahir contributing on both ends of the floor defensively and showing outstanding hustle.
The Chargers' bench proved to be a key factor, outscoring Cuyamaca's reserves 27–19 and providing consistent energy throughout the contest. Cypress also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 11 points off offensive rebounds while holding Cuyamaca scoreless in that category.
Defensively, Cypress limited the Coyotes to 38.2 percent shooting from the field and forced 10 turnovers, converting them into timely points that helped maintain momentum.
