2019 Mt. SAC Women's Soccer team

(Cypress, CA) After two periods of overtime, No. 16 Mt. SAC (14-6-3) and top-seed Cypress (17-0-4) were unable to break a 1-1 tie in a first-round match of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 23. In the decisive shootout, the Mounties outscored the host Chargers, 4-2, to advance to the second round of the playoffs.  This marks the first time the Mountie Women's Soccer Team has advanced this far (second round) into play-offs since 2008.  In his first year as Women's Head Coach, Juan Sanchez has brought his magic over from the men's program which has rarely missed a trip to the state championships during the same period.

Liani Sanchez scored an unassisted goal at the 58:29 mark to put Mt. SAC up, 1-0. Cypress returned the favor at 66:12 to tie the score. Sanchez, Taylor Moose, Madelyn Droog, and Hannah Grady each connected on their shootout shots on goal to put the Mounties through to the next round.

In 120 minutes, goalkeeper Gabrielle Leon had eight saves for Mt. SAC.

The Mounties will travel to take on No. 8 San Bernardino Valley College (14-3-3) on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. The Wolverines advanced on penalty kicks, 3-1, against No. 9 Fullerton to earn a date with Mt. SAC in the next round. San Bernardino Valley defeated the Mounties, 3-1, in an earlier match on Sept. 2.
