BASEBALL: HORNETS BLANK THE CHARGERS

In game one of the Southern California Super Regionals, #17 Fullerton blanked #4 Cypress College 5-0 on Friday at Cypress.

The Hornets struck early in the first inning scoring two runs on a single to left field by Shane Carrier scoring Joey Parente and Justin Row.

Fullerton did more damage in the top of the sixth when Carrier cracked another single to left field allowing Laine Huffman to go home. Josh Balbuena then ripped a single to deep right field scoring David Miranda and Carrier.

FC starting pitcher Randall Ortiz (9-2) threw a complete shutout game allowing 9 hits and 2 walks on the day.

Cypress starter Tylor Megill took only his second loss on the season going six innings with 5 earned runs on 11 hits.

In all, Fullerton had 14 hits with Joey Parente going 4-5. Shane Carrier, Justin Row, Andrew Piraino, and David Miranda all served up a multi-hit game.

Up Next: The Hornets will be back at Cypress tomorrow, Saturday May 14th for the second game of the best-of-three series. The first pitch goes out at noon.
