Bobcats take series from Chargers

The Saddleback baseball team took the rubber game of a three-game series with a 6-2 win against Cypress College on Friday at Doug Fritz Field.  The Bobcats took an early lead and made it stick in winning a third straight series.

Saddleback and Cypress scored a combined 51 runs in the first two games of the series so most on hand were prepared for another marathon.  They got something a little different as the Bobcats won what would be considered a low-scoring game in 2022.

Saddleback took a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning and never trailed in the game.  Jacob Naso led off the game with a double down the right field line and then came home to score on a sacrifice fly from Cole Koniarsky.  Later in the inning, Johnathan Behm doubled home Jordan Dissin and the Bobcats led 2-0.

Saddleback added a run in the bottom half of the second inning when Moonhyeon Eom doubled down the right field line and later came home to score on a single from Naso.  It was the second of four hits on the day for Naso (pictured), who finished 4-for-4 with three runs-scored.

Meanwhile, Ryan Farmer was impressive in his ninth start of the season.  He pitched 6+ innings, giving up one earned run while striking out three.  Farmer gave way to Joshua Meekins and Arthur Liu, who gave the Chargers very little over the final three innings of work.

Saddleback is now 19-7 overall and 6-3 in Orange Empire Conference play following the win.  The Bobcats are currently in a three-way tie for first place in conference play with 12 games remaining in the regular season.  Saddleback will open a three-game series at Santa Ana on Tuesday at 2:00 PM.  The final two games of the series are at Saddleback on Thursday (2:00 PM) and Saturday (12:00 PM).
