SOFTBALL: TWO LOSS DAY

SOFTBALL: TWO LOSS DAY

The No. 9 Hornets lost both games to No. 2 Cypress College at home Thursday falling to the Chargers in game one 7-6 and in game two 6-3.

The first game of the day was a completion of a previous game that went into extra innings at Cypress and was postponed due to darkness. The game resumed in the 9th inning with the score tied 6-6. In the 11th inning, Cypress took the game away from FC 7-6 on a SAC Fly to center field hit by Gabby Munoz that scored Amanda Campos from third.

In game two, Fullerton handed Cypress (14-2 overall, 8-1 OEC) their second loss of the season and their first Orange Empire Conference loss.

The Chargers took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a hard line drive that landed in center field by Kim MacPherson. Eliza Sandoval and Ayala both scored. Infinity Laufo hit one to left field that brought in MacPherson from second base.

In the top of the third, FC suffered a rough inning giving up 3 more runs. Sandoval doubled to left center scoring Ayala scored, and MacPherson singled to center field scoring Sandoval. Campos hit a hard shot that went off the pitcher's glove for a hit bringing in Maddie Bogdanovich.

The Hornets cut the lead in half in the bottom of the sixth on a hard shot that doubled off the left field fence by Lulu Vasquez. Veronica Garza and Kaylee Williamson both scored. Khloe Lilavois knocked in the third run on a double to right scoring pinch runner Hunter Williams.

With one out in the seventh, Fullerton did their best to challenge Cypress getting two runners on base. Clarissa Hernandez walked and Sabrina Anguiano hit a strong single up the middle, but the rally ended with a groundout and a pop out.

Up Next: The Hornets (14-3 overall, 5-3 OEC) will play at Southwestern College this Saturday, March 16th at 12:00 pm.
