Warriors Split at Mount San Antonio Tournament

WALNUT, Calif. --- El Camino College came away with a split over the weekend at the Mount San Antonio Tournament against some of the toughest competition they have faced thus far this season.

WARRIORS 13, PALOMAR 12

The weekend began with a slim victory over Palomar. The Comets outscored the Warriors 5-3 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to overtake ECC.

Max Hale scored four goals with Heitor Trefilio adding three. Robbie Josic and Scott Fujiwara each scored twice with Zane Johnson scoring once with a team-high three assists. Vios Lopez secured the win in the cage.

WARRIORS 19, CYPRESS 18 (2OT)

Extra water polo was needed in the Warriors' final match of the day on Friday with ECC pulling out the victory in double overtime. The Chargers came into the match receiving votes in last week's CCCWPCA state rankings, giving the Warriors their most impressive win of the season.

Hale scored six goals including two in double overtime to lead the way. Trefilio added three with Johnson and Marc Bugarin scoring two apiece in the victory.

Sam Adams played in four of the six quarters in the cage and recorded the win with seven saves in the match.

NO. 6 ORANGE COAST 16, WARRIORS 12

The Warriors took a 5-4 lead over the No. 4 ranked Pirates after one quarter but could not sustain the offense in a 16-12 loss.

The Pirates scored four goals in every period while the Warriors managed just seven goals in the last three periods.

Robbie Josic led the team with five goals with Fujiwara, Trefilio and Johnson adding two apiece in a losing effort.

Lopez made nine saves as he played the full game in the cage.

NO. 4 L.A. VALLEY 18, WARRIORS 7

The No. 4 Monarchs used a nine-goal second quarter to gain separation and then put the match away in the third quarter to send the Warriors home with a split.

Bugarin led the Warriors with four goals with Josic and Jaziel Lopez adding two apiece in the loss.

Adams made three saves in the cage as he played all four quarters.

The Warriors will open South Coast Conference action on Wednesday as they host Rio Hondo at the ECC Aquatics Center. The match will start at approximately 4:30 p.m. pending the duration of the women's match.
