Women's Soccer: Roadrunners are No. 4 seed, host Cypress in Round 1

The South Coast Conference North Division champion Rio Hondo College Women's Soccer team has been named the No. 4 seed for the 2016 Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host the No. 13 Cypress College Chargers in an opening-round game on Saturday (Nov. 19) at 7 p.m.

The Rio Hondo College Soccer Complex will host a playoff doubleheader as the No. 5-seeded men's soccer team will take on No. 12 Los Angeles Mission College at 4 p.m. Tickets to the CCCAA postseason event are $12 for general admission and $8 for staff, students, and children.

The Roadrunners recently wrapped up an impressive regular season as Rio Hondo compiled a 13-1-5 overall record and went 5-0-3 in conference play to capture its first-ever SCC title. The Roadrunners will enter the postseason ranked No. 19 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Junior College Division III National Poll.

Rio Hondo is making its third straight postseason appearance after reaching the state championship final last season as a No. 2 seed and advancing to second round in 2014.

Despite the low No. 13 seed, Rio Hondo can't overlook Cypress in the first round. The Chargers compiled a 13-2-6 overall record and finished second in the highly-competitive Orange Empire Conference with a 10-1-5 mark. Rio Hondo and Cypress did not meet this season.

A win over Cypress would advance the Roadrunners to the second round to face the winner of No. 5 San Bernardino Valley College and No. 12 San Diego Mesa College on either Nov. 22 or 23. Three victories in the regionals are needed for a return trip to the CCCAA Soccer State Championship on Dec. 2 & 4 at Ventura College.
