SOFTBALL: TOUGH HORNET LOSS

On the road Wednesday, the Lady Hornets had one more chance to get a game from Cypress College, and they came up short losing 4-3 to the Chargers in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

Fullerton ended a 13-game win streak and is now 13-4 in conference-play, while Cypress remains undefeated at 16-0.

The game began as a pitching duel between FC's Jessica Lopez (12-3) and Cypress' Janea Brannen (18-3), until the fourth inning when Fullerton brought the game's first run across on a single to right field by Lulu Vasquez that scored Kaylee Williamson. In the bottom of the fourth, Cypress scored all the runs they needed to win the game. The Chargers scored a run on an error and then Brannen hit a three-run homer over the left center fence.

Fullerton valiantly fought back grabbing two runs in the fifth. A triple by Williamson brought Veronica Garza in, and she got the green light to score from third on a wild pitch.

Lopez pitched a 3-hit game going 6 innings with 2 earned runs, 4 walks and 7 strikeouts.

Up Next: The Hornets (26-5 overall, 13-4 OEC) will play a non-conference game at Antelope Valley this Friday, April 12th at 12:00 pm.
