CYPRESS, CA- The CCCATA (California Community College Athletic Trainers Association) announced that Cypress College's head athletic trainer, Scott Tucker, has been honored as the 2020 Hall of Fame Inductee. Scott will be the 21st member of the Hall of Fame and will be presented the award at the California Community College Athletic Trainers Association's conference in San Diego, CA in April of 2021.
Scott Tucker, has spent his entire career with Cypress and completed his 35th season with the college last month. He has been apart of 19 CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association) State Championships and 64 OEC (Orange Empire Conference) Titles. He was hired in the fall of 1985 out of graduate school from the University of Utah where he majored in Excercise Science and Pyschology. He serves as the health care professional responsible for acute treatment, preventative medicine, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries for the 14 athletic programs at Cypress College. Tucker denotes his successful career to the amazing relationships he has created over the years that pushed him to implement innovative techniques year after year. After the completition of the 2021 athletic season Scott Tucker will retire completing his 36th and final year at Cypress College.
Scott not only demonstrates a passion for patient care, but also exhibits a sincere love for education. He was an adjunct instructor for approximately 26 years, providing instruction in the discipline of athletic training and AED/CPR/First Aid. It is all about student-success with Scott. As a preceptor, he has taught and mentored athletic training students from Chapman University, Cal State Fullerton, and Cal State Long Beach. Over the years, he has touched the lives of countless Cypress College students, which has produced over 25 certified athletic trainers, two physical therapists, two occupational therapists, and two physicians. He was awarded preceptor of the year in 2014, from Chapman University, and the CCCATA Athletic Trainer of the year in 2016.
Tucker had this to say about his 2020 CCCATA Hall of Fame Induction. "I could not be more honored to receive this award. As wonderful and unexpected of a surprise as it is, I am happy to say that I was inducted into the Hall of Fame after working 35 years at one instituiton. This is the epitome of my career and it culminates the hard work I have dedicated to my craft over the last three and a half decades. I feel as if it is a sign that I have arrived, and it is the perfect place for my career to end. I have stuck to the motto "what did you do lately" throughout my career and it has pushed me to the next level year after year. Cypress College is a special place and I would not want to accept this award anywhere else".
Due to the pandemic, Scott Tucker will accept his award in April of 2021 at the CCCATA Conference in San Diego, CA.
