Chargers Finish 4th at OEC Championships

CYPRESS, CA- The women's water polo team (12-9, 2-4 OEC) defeated Orange Coast in the (4-17, 1-4 OEC) in the first round of the OEC Championship tournament, 8-3. The Chargers went on to lose their next two games and grab 4th place in the OEC Conference.

Cypress got off to a slow start vs. Orange Coast as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the match. The Lady Chargers turned it on and scored 8 straight goals to win the 1st round match 8-3. Freshman, Ruth Quintanilla led the team with 3 goals, while Marlenne Ortega and Sara Morris each tacked on 2 each.

Cypress had momentum throughout the season after stringing together 6 wins early in the year and sweeping the Mt. SAC Mountie Classic. Ortega and Quintanilla led the scoring threat for the Chargers this season, scoring a combined 84 goals. Morgan Stiewig protected the net this season leading the team in steals and saves. Stiewig finished 2nd in the OEC for goals against and notched 11 wins on the season.

The Lady Charger's season did not finish as they would have hoped, but they have a lot to be proud of moving forward. Congrats on a fantastic season, Chargers!
