Charger Playoff Run Ends Against No.2 Santa Barbara, 13-4

CERRITOS, CA- The women's water polo team (14-8, 2-5 OEC) defeated Ventura College (14-13, 6-3) in the first round of playoffs, 16-13. The Chargers moved on to the SoCal Regional Quarterfinal, where they fell to No.2 ranked Santa Barbara City College (30-3, 8-0), 13-4.

In the first round of the SoCal Regional Playoff, the #7 seeded Chargers played against #10 Ventura College. The Pirates would claim the first goal of the game, but the Chargers would bite back with three straight goals – two from Josie Miller and one from Natasha Velez. Ventura would slip another goal in past the Charger defense in the first quarter, but the Chargers would answer back with two more goals, another each for Miller and Velez making the score at the end of the first quarter, 5-2. The Chargers would extend their lead in the second and third quarter with goals from Andrea Corrigan, Allison Garcia, Velez and Miller.  Chargers enter the fourth quarter up by two goals. The Chargers would net four more goals by Jade Towgood, Garcia, Miller and Velez rounding out the score and ending the game, 16-13.

The Chargers moved on to the SoCal Regional quarterfinal game, where they would face off against #2 Santa Barbara City College. Santa Barbara put notched five goals in the first quarter, while the Chargers netted zero. Second quarter began with another Santa Barbara goal, but the Chargers would get on the scoreboard with two goals by Velez. The quarter would end with the Vaqueros up by seven. Miller would net a goal for the Chargers in the third quarter but the Chargers still found themselves behind. Down eight entering the fourth quarter, the Chargers knew it was going to be an uphill battle if they wanted to keep their playoff run alive. The deficit was too much for the Chargers to overcome and the Vaqueros ended the Chargers season, 13-4.

The Chargers were awarded a top 10 ranking this season, which was a first in the history of women's water polo here at Cypress and for the first time in twenty-five plus years, a playoff win. The Chargers finish their season with a record of 14-8, 2-5 OEC. Congrats on a fantastic season, Chargers!
