Women's Water Polo Splits Four in Battle of the Beach

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's water polo team finished 2-2 during the Battle of the Beach Tournament held at Long Beach City College and Cypress College this past Friday and Saturday.

The Chargers began the weekend with two tough losses on Friday, falling to Santa Barbara City College 13-6 and Fullerton College 11-3. Cypress salvaged their weekend with back-to-back victories on Saturday, defeating Chaffey 10-5 and San Diego Mesa 12-11.

Freshman standout Natasha Velez led the Chargers with 14 goals for the tournament. Velez added 2 assists and 6 steals. Sophomore Ariel Burns chipped in with 7 goals, 8 assists, and 9 steals for the weekend, while goalie Kaylie Merrill finished the 4-game stretch with 49 saves.

Women's water polo will cap off their regular season in the annual Orange Empire Conference Championship Tournament hosted by Cypress College on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4. Game times and matchups TBD.
