CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's water polo team (6-3, 1-2 OEC) picked up their first Orange Empire Conference victory of the season in their OEC home opener against Santa Ana College (0-5, 0-3 OEC) on Wednesday, 18-4. The dominant 14-goal margin of victory is the largest for the Chargers this season.

Sophomore Joana Marquez led the way for Cypress with a season-high 6 goals, 2 steals, and 2 ejections drawn. Kayla Trujillo chipped in with 3 goals and a steal to help earn Cypress their sixth win this year.

The Chargers came out firing, jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead with over four minutes to go in the opening frame. The Dons got on the board to make it a 4-1 lead (4:36), before Cypress responded with two more goals to end the quarter. Cypress never looked back as they cruised to an 18-4 victory.

Women's water polo will return to action this Friday and Saturday in the San Diego Mesa Tournament.
