Water Polo Has Undefeated Weekend at Ventura Tournament

Ventura – The women's water polo team had an impressive showing over the weekend as the Chargers went 4-0 at the Ventura Tournament.  Emily Yates was the top scorer for Cypress in the tournament, tallying 13 goals, while Becca Stephensen was great in the goal, posting 56 saves in four games, including three five-meter penalty shot blocks.

 

The Chargers' first win of the tournament was a big one as they defeated Santa Monica 25-5. Yates, Nicole Wheeler and Taylor Leach led the team with four goals apiece. Hali Sanchez and Casey Burke each added three goals in the victory.

 

In game two, Cypress faced the Ventura All-Stars and defeated the team 10-6. Yates scored a team-high five goals, while Leach chipped in three. In the goal, Stephensen had a great game, notching 16 saves.

 

On day two, the Chargers first faced Miramar and won 8-7. Yates again was the team's leading scorer, tallying four against Miramar. Aimee Espey and Leach each added two, while Stephensen again was clutch in the net, posting 19 saves.

 

In the final game of the tournament, Cypress defeated Ventura 10-8. Burke scored a team-high six goals, while Leach added two. Emily Allen and Espey each added one goal in the victory. Stephensen posted 11 saves in the final game for the Chargers.

 

Cypress returns to Orange Empire action on Wednesday when it travels to Riverside for a 3:00 pm match.
