#5 Chargers Extend Win Streak to 10 in Thrilling Match Over Fullerton

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers women's volleyball team (10-1, 2-0 OEC) played Fullerton College (7-7, 1-2 OEC) at home in an exhilarating Friday night game. Though tested, the Chargers ended up defeating Fullerton College in four sets (25-20, 25-27, 25-16, 27-25). 

Zoe Munn led the team with 19 digs to go along with her team leading three aces.  Vanila Pulu-Suliafu continued to set her teammates up for success as she assisted on 43 points and was second on the team with 18 digs. Rachel Gonzales proved to be the heavy hitter as she led the Chargers with 13 kills.  

Cypress started off strong, getting out to 4-1 lead in set one. Though two straight aces from libero, Zoe Munn, extended the Chargers' lead, Fullerton was able to storm back, going up 13-11. The two teams traded points, eventually tying it up again at 16 a piece, before the Chargers offense kicked in to form and finished the set 25-20.

Set two was a set of runs; after being tied at five, Fullerton went on an 8-0 run extending their lead to seven points, 13-6. Coach Nancy Welliver called a timeout to regroup her team, as the Chargers faced an eleven point deficit, 18-7. Fullerton's offensive attack would not slow down as they took a commanding 22-7 lead. The Chargers refused to give up and a kill from Tainea Allen brought the score to within 10. Cypress then went on a 7-0 run led by the serving from Vanila Pulu-Suliafu, bringing the Chargers within striking distance at 23-20. Fullerton hung on to win the set, 27-25, but the incredible comeback gave the Chargers the momentum needed to finish the game strong.

In the third set, the Chargers got out to an early 6-2 lead and never looked back, dominating the set 25-16. The Fullerton Hornets would not go down easily and traded points with the Chargers in set four, tying it up at 16 all. The next point featured a high-flying kill by Tainea Allen and Cypress would not look back, holding strong to finish out the set and the game with a score of 27-25.  

UP NEXT: Cypress will continue OEC play on Wednesday (9/29) when they travel to Santa Ana College. The match will begin at 6:00pm.
