Chargers Dominate Orange Coast on Sophomore Night

CYPRESS, CA- The women's volleyball team closed out the regular season with a (3-1) win over Orange Coast. Cypress (15-7, 11-5 OEC) has split the season series with Orange Coast (18-6, 11-5 OEC).

Sophomore night ended on a high note for the Lady Chargers after they dominated the Pirates in three straight sets. Cypress got off to a slow start losing the first set (16-25), but turned it on for the rest of the match (25-15, 25-20, 25-20).

Cypress had four sophomores: Ashley Corona, Danielle Gomez, Savannah Johnson, and Brittany Zavala play in their final regular season game at Don Johnson gymnasium last night. All four played valuable minutes and showed out in their final game. Libero Ashley Corona finished the night with 11 digs, which was second on the team. Setter Danielle Gomez continued her excellent season and had her second match with 50 assists this season. Middle hitter Savannah Johnson and outside hitter Brittany Zavala combined for 23 kills and 7 block assists to cap off a great night for the Chargers.

Freshmen Mary Hicks, Lauren Adamo and Alondra Lamas continued to impress in their first season. Hicks finished the night leading the team with 18 kills, as Lamas followed closely behind with 14. Adamo was all over the court leading the team with 21 digs and provided the spark for Cypress.

Women's volleyball will now get prepared for the OEC playoffs and a push for another conference championship. The schedule and seeding for all things playoffs will be available later today.
