Women's Volleyball Standout, Jane Woodward, Signs with Cal Poly Pomona

CYPRESS, CA – Cypress College women's volleyball standout, Jane Woodward, accepted a scholarship offer from NCAA Division II Cal Poly Pomona last Friday. The Broncos finished their 2018 campaign ranked No. 17 in the nation.

"Almost immediately when I got to the campus it felt like home," said Woodward. "I just want to go there and become a better athlete and teammate. I want to continue to be a part of something bigger than myself, get my degree, and create good college memories," she added.

Originally, from Portland, Oregon, Woodward is an alumnus of Woodrow Wilson High School, where she was a four-sport standout, participating in varsity women's volleyball, basketball, track, and tennis. Woodward decided to stick with volleyball and brought her talents to Cypress College prior to the 2017 season.

"It was really hard when I moved out to California; I didn't know anyone in the state, so I had to build from the ground up. I am a financially independent student, so it was tough balancing work, school, and volleyball, but I'm really proud of what I've accomplished so far here," said Woodward.

The 6'2" middle blocker finished her career at Cypress with 321 career kills and 122 blocks. She averaged 2.07 kills per set and 0.85 blocks per set her sophomore season, securing her a 2018 All-OEC First Team selection. The Chargers made back-to-back CCCAA playoff appearances and qualified for the 2018 CCCAA State Championship Tournament, where the sophomore earned a spot on the 2018 All-State Tournament Team.

"I'll leave Cypress College with lifelong friends and I got the chance to compete at a high level in the playoffs both years," said Woodward. "The best moment was definitely beating number one IVC and then going on to beat Long Beach City in the playoffs to advance to State. That was the best volleyball moment of my life."

Woodward plans to major in physical therapy while attending Cal Poly, with career plans to become a geriatric physical therapist. Her inspiration for becoming a geriatric physical therapist is her Grandmother, who suffered from dementia. After watching her struggle with the disease, Woodward was inspired to help the elderly thrive.
