No. 23 Chargers Defeat Dons for Third Straight Win

SANTA ANA, CA – The Cypress College women's volleyball team (10-6, 5-2 OEC) moved into third place in the OEC standings with a road win over the Santa Ana College Dons (2-12, 1-6 OEC) in three sets on Wednesday night (25-17, 25-13, 25-17).

The Chargers took the first set, 25-17. Two kills from Brittany Zavala and Savannah Johnson would earn the Chargers an early lead over the Dons. Kills from Kayla Owens and Jane Woodard would extend that lead for the Chargers. The Dons came reasonably close to taking the lead, but continued kills from Zavala, Johnson and Owens made it near impossible.

The Chargers earned the first three points of the second set with kills from Khamis Berneker and Zavala, and an ace from Owens. Ashley Corona would extend the Chargers lead with back-to-back aces as they went on to take the second set, 25-13. Continued domination from the Chargers in the third set would put the nail in the coffin for the Dons. Kills from Owens, Berneker and Marina Pilkington would help the Chargers earn their 10th overall win and 5th conference win of the season, 25-17.

The Chargers are back in action on Friday, October 12th at 6:00pm against the OEC top-seated Lasers at Irvine Valley College.
