No. 25 Chargers Earn Second Consecutive Sweep, Topple District Rival Hornets

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's volleyball team (9-6, 4-2 OEC) defeated district rival Fullerton College (7-5, 2-4 OEC) in three sets at home on Friday night (25-16, 25-20, 25-15). Coming off of a three-set sweep at Golden West College on Wednesday, makes it the first time this season that the No. 25 Chargers have swept back-to-back opponents.

Cypress dominated from the opening serve, led by sophomore outside hitter Kayla Owens. Owens finished with 16 kills and no errors in 26 attempts. She also added 2 aces and 5 digs to her total. Sophomore Khamis Berneker chipped in with 6 kills, 2 aces, and 4 digs on the night.

The Chargers currently sit in fourth place with 10 games remaining in a tough Orange Empire Conference. Cypress will look to pick up where they left off with two big games on the road next week. They will being their week with a Wednesday night matchup against the Santa Ana College Dons, followed by a showdown with No. 1 Irvine Valley College on Friday. Both matches are scheduled for 6:00 pm.
