CYPRESS, CA – The fourth-seeded Cypress College women's volleyball team (18-6, 13-3 OEC) was upset at home in their CCCAA Southern California Regional match-up against thirteen-seeded San Diego City College (22-3, 9-1 PCAC) in four sets on Tuesday night (25-19, 24-26, 24-26, 22-25). The loss eliminates the Chargers from the postseason and sends the Knights on to a second round game on Saturday, November 25.

Freshman Kayla Owens led the way for Cypress, finishing the match with a season-high 20 kills and season-high 16 digs. Sophomore First Team All-OEC selection Brianna Johnson added a game-high 22 kills and 3 blocks.

Lyssette Serna did it all for San Diego City, finishing with a team-high 17 kills, 21 digs, and 2 blocks.

The Lady Chargers took control of the match early, winning the opening set in front of their home crowd, 25-19. Cypress looked to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the second set, jumping out to an early lead. However, the Knights' Serna and Shatha Julima led a huge run for San Diego City as they came back to tie the match, 1-1.

The Knights' momentum carried over into the third set as Cypress struggled to find holes in the San Diego City defense. The Knights capitalized on 28 total hitting errors by the Chargers to steal the next two sets and the match three sets to one.
