No. 18 Cypress Sweeps No. 21 Golden West, 3-0

CYPRESS, CA – The No. 18 Cypress College women's volleyball team (17-5, 12-3 OEC) completed their second consecutive sweep of the Rustlers this season (25-18, 27-25, 26-24) at home on Wednesday night. The victory keeps Cypress in the OEC's number two spot heading into the final regular season game at home on Wednesday against Santa Ana College. First serve scheduled for 6:00 pm.

Cypress sophomore Brianna Johnson notched a team-high 19 kills, 6 digs, and career-high 10 blocks. Kayla Owens and Jane Woodward added 13 kills and 10 kills for the Chargers, respectively. Freshman setter Penina Wilder served up 47 assists to go along with 9 digs.

The Chargers set the tone early in the first set, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. The Rustlers answered with a 6-2 run to tie the game at 8. A pair of blocks from Johnson and freshman Kyra Sims helped Cypress regain control and coast to a 25-18 victory.

Golden West managed to take early leads and play Cypress down to the wire in the second and third sets. The Rustlers led 22-19 in the second set, but Wilder served up Johnson for 3 straight kills to tie the game 22-22. Owens made big plays down the stretch to secure a 27-25 victory for the Chargers in the second set.

Cypress battled back after trailing in the third set. Trailing 20-22, Brianna Georgopoulos scored on a tip followed by a kill from Woodward to tie the game 22-22. Sims managed to close out the game and the match with her sixth kill of the night.
