CYPRESS, CA – The 22nd ranked Cypress College women's volleyball team (8-4, 3-2 OEC) completed their third consecutive sweep at home with a 3-0 victory over the Riverside City College Tigers (6-7, 1-4 OEC) on Wednesday night (25-16, 25-21, 25-18).

Brianna Johnson continued to build on a strong sophomore season with a team-high 10 kills on 17 attempts. Johnson added 6 digs, 2 blocks, and a career-high 5 service aces on the night. The freshman duo of Kayla Owens and Khamis Berneker chipped in 8 kills each. Berneker also finished with 10 digs.

The Chargers made easy work of the Tigers in the opening set. After taking an early 18-7 lead the Chargers coasted to a 25-16 victory to take a 1-0 lead.

The second set was a battle, as both teams went on tremendous runs. Trailing 11-9 in the second set, Cypress went on an 11-0 run led by 3 kills from Johnson, to take a 20-11 lead. However, the Tigers answered the call with a 9-0 run of their own, eventually cutting the deficit to 22-20. The Chargers were able to regain their composure following a timeout from Coach Welliver, and went on to win 25-21.

Both teams traded blows in the third set, before a solo block from freshman Kyra Sims ended the game 25-18 and the match 3-0.

Women's Volleyball will return to action at home in a big OEC match-up against No. 7 Saddleback College on Friday night. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
