Chargers Upset by Golden West at Home

Cypress, CA-The Cypress Chargers (17-8, 8-3) lost just their second home game of the season 3-1 on Friday night against Golden West Rustlers (11-8, 7-4) (21-25, 25-27, 25-20, 17-25).

The Chargers started out slow in the first set and could never recover. With the score being 1-6, Cypress took a much needed timeout and would crawl back into the game. After trailing 17-11, Cypress would go on a 4-0 run forcing a Golden West timeout. The game would go back and forth with the Chargers coming within two points but would ultimately lose the set 25-21.

The second set would start the same as the first set. Golden West started on a 7-1 run prompting a Cypress timeout. The lead would balloon up to 18-9. However, the Chargers would use a 10-4 run to come within three points and eventually tie the set at 25. The Chargers couldn't get over the hump and Golden West wound up taking set two 25-27.

Cypress started the third set strong taking an early 4-2 lead after a Golden West rotation error. The Rustlers would bounce back and take an 8-5 lead forcing a Chargers timeout. The Chargers were able to battle back and regain the lead 19-18. Cypress went on a 6-1 run and took set three 25-20.

Once again, the Rustlers came out the gate strong and would grab an early 7-1 lead over Cypress. Golden West would never look back as they held a comfortable lead throughout the set. They took the set 25-17 sealing the match 3-1.

Cypress will look to get back in the win column when they face Riverside at home on Tuesday, November 10th at 6pm.
