Efseaff Opens Swim Season With First Place Finish at Waterman Pentathlon

SAN MARCOS, CA – The women's swim and dive team opened the 2019 season on Friday at the Waterman Pentathlon hosted by Palomar College. The women posted a team score of 167 points and the men finished with 124 points, earning them a combined 4th place finish. The women finished 3rd overall, while the men finished 4th.

The Chargers' individual standout was freshman Meghan Efseaff, who took home first in the pentathlon, coming in 16 points ahead of 2nd place finisher Thais Luiz from San Diego Mesa.

In her first collegiate meet, Efseaff finished with 94 total points. Efseaff competed in five events for the Chargers – 50-yard fly, 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle, and 100-yard IM. Esfeaff took first place in three of those five races (50 fly, 50 back and 100 IM) and second in the other two (50 breast and 50 free). Efseaff fastest time came in her fourth event, the 50-yard freestyle, where she posted a time of 26.34 seconds.

Cypress swim and dive will return to action at the Mt. SAC Invitational beginning on Thursday, February 21 through Saturday, February 23.
