Lady Charger Kayleen Bretz Nearly Breaks Team Record during First Swim of the Season

Chargers Showing Promise Early in the Season

The Cypress College Men's Swim Team wrapped up the Mt. San Antonio Invite with a 5th place finish out of 20 teams that participated.  The team was led by freshman Brian Vo who racked up a team high 61 points, and four top-eight finishes.  Vo finished 3rd in the 50-yard breaststroke (28.78), 6th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.57), 7th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.86) and 8th in the 1650-yard freestyle (19:06.23).  Sophomore Mark Wyse found himself finishing four points behind teammate Vo with 57 points and three-top eight finishes.  Wyse who is the current Cypress College record holder in the 50-yard freestyle finished 3rd in the 50-yard butterfly (24.99), 5th in the 50-yard freestyle (22.45), and 8th in the 100-yard butterfly (55.65). Freshman Brock Railey had a good performance as he finished with 27 points and two-top eight finishes. Railey finished 6th in the 50-yard backstroke (26.76) and 7th in the 50-yard butterfly (25.23). The Chargers also had a good showing in the relays as they finished 5th in the 200-yard medley relay (Railey, Vo, Tim Efseaff, Wyse: 1:42.28), 7th in the 400-freestyle relay (Vo, Nathan Panter, Railey, Wyse: 3:25.34), 7th in the 400-medley relay (Railey, Vo, Efseaff, Wise: 3:52.22) and 6th in the 200-freestlye relay (Vo, Panter, Railey, Wyse: 1:31.85).Freshman diver Ryan Napohaku had an amazing round of diving on the 1-meter (181.35 pts) and 3-meter diving boards (215.6 pts), finishing 2nd on both.
 
The Charger Swimming team is now gearing up for their first Orange Empire Conference meet at Riverside Community College on Friday, March 3rd.

LadyCharger Kayleen Bretz Nearly Breaks Team Record during First Swim of the Season

The Cypress College Chargers finish the Mt. San Antonio Invite with a 6th place team finish out of 22 teams that participated.  The Lady Chargers were led by freshman diver Alejandra Gomez who cleaned up on the boards with a 1st place finish on the 3-meter board (221.55 pts) and a 2nd place finish on the 1-meter board (200.95 pts), racking up 37 points for her team.  Distance swimmer Kayleen Bretz scored 32 points to help-out her team.  Bretz is showing promise after her 3rd place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle (19:10.71); only six seconds off the 2007 Cypress College team record.
 

The Lady Chargers Swimming Team is now looking forward to their first Orange Empire Conference meet at Riverside Community College on Friday, March 3rd.
