Five Women’s Soccer Players Move on to Four-Year Universities
CYPRESS, CA – Women's Soccer will see five sophomores move on to four-year programs this fall. The team is excited to see Presli Dillon, Alyssa Villalobos, Christine Duarte, Jassmin Ortiz and Siriana Gudiño advance to the next level.
Q: Go ahead and tell us about your time here at Cypress College.
A: I had a pretty good time at Cypress College. I do not regret not going anywhere else. I absolutely loved it here. I loved the experience of the coaches, the players and the staff at Cypress.
Q: Do you have a favorite memory here?
A: Our playoff game against Santiago in 2021. The game was very intense and we were able to do it together as a team. It was one of the closest moments I felt with them.
Q: What excites you the most about being a part of the women's soccer team at Cal State LA?
A: I am excited to play at a higher level. It has always been a dream of mine. To get exposed to more at a higher institution.
Q: What do you think best prepared you for the next step here at Cypress?
A: The coaches for sure here at Cypress.
Q: What will you miss most about your experience as a Charger?
A: I am going to miss everything about it. The coaches, the team because I absolutely loved the team this year. Definitely something I am going to miss being a part of.
Q: Where are you going this fall, Alyssa?
A: I am going to Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Q: Tell us how your time here was at Cypress College?
A: I had a good time here, I made close friends and got to play with old teammates from my club team. It was a really fun experience.
Q: Why did you choose Cal State Dominguez Hills?
A: I chose it because it was close to my home and family. I did not want to go out of state and my mom goes to Dominguez Hills as well.
Q: Do you have a favorite memory here at Cypress?
A: I think going to the finals last year was really fun.
Q: What excites you the most about being a part of the soccer program at Dominguez Hills?
A: I get to play with teammates and to compete at the next level.
Q: What do you feel best prepared you for the next during your time at Cypress?
A: I think it was very competitive and the good coaches taught us a lot.
Q: What will you miss most about your time here at Cypress?
A: I will definitely miss my teammates, that is what I will miss most.
Q: Okay Christine, could you tell us where you are going and how your time was here at Cypress College?
A: "I am going to Cal State Dominguez Hills. My time here was very good and very competitive."
Q: Do you have a favorite memory here at Cypress?
A: My favorite memory was making it to the State Finals my first year.
Q: Why did you choose Cal State Dominguez Hills?
A: Because it is a good school with a good soccer program.
Q: What excites you the most about being a part of the soccer program there?
A: Finding new players to compete with and working my way back up again.
Q: What do you feel best prepared you for the next step during your time here at Cypress?
A: The coaching staff and their philosophy.
Q: Go ahead and tell us where you are going and how was your time here at Cypress College?
A: I am going to Cal State LA. My time at Cypress was pretty fun. I would say it felt short and I wish it was longer. I had a fun time here and I am going to miss it.
Q: Do you have a favorite memory here at Cypress?
A: I think my favorite memory was when we were putting up the Orange Empire Conference championship number up. Because I was struggling to put the number in and it was pretty fun.
Q: Why did you choose Cal State LA?
A: I chose Cal State LA because it was a good program and one I want to study in. And I am excited to contribute to the soccer program.
Q: What excites you the most about being a part of the soccer program at Cal State LA?
A: I get to play with old friends that I have known since I was nine.
Q: What do you think best prepared you for the next step during your time at Cypress College?
A: I think I learned the experience of how soccer is going to be at Cal State LA. It might be more aggressive over there but I think I got a good experience here.
Q: What will you miss most about your experience as a Charger?
A: Everything. Playing here, it was a good program and I will miss playing with my teammates and coaches. It was fun.
Q: Go ahead and tell us where you're going.
A: I am going to Minot State University in North Dakota.
Q: How was your time here at Cypress?
A: It was beyond my expectations. Coming in, I thought it was going to be an average experience. But I had a lot of fun here and I am going to miss this place a lot.
Q: Do you have a favorite memory here?
A: I would say making it to the final four. Even though we didn't win, it was a fun experience to be with the team. Going to Mt. Sac and getting little cards to have permission to be on the field. It felt very professional, it was fun.
Q: Why did you choose Minot State?
A: I chose them because they have a good sportscasting program as well. I want to be a sportscaster and they have a very specific program just for that. I got to speak to the head of the department there and he was very nice speaking to me. And soccer wise they are a really good team. The coach and I were on mutual wave lengths and he was very interested in me. I was able to communicate my interest and there was no awkward communication with it
Q: What excites you the most about being a part of their soccer program?
A: I would say finally getting to play in a higher level of soccer, they are a D2 school as well. It snows there and I have never played in the snow. So I am interested to see how I am going to play in the different climate.
Q: What do you feel best prepared you for the next step here at Cypress?
A: I would definitely say finding the balance between school and soccer. Being a student-athlete, there are two titles within that. Just keeping a balance while trying to do your best in both. I really want to be the best in soccer and it takes extra hard work. But it also takes extra hard work to do well in school. I think being able to practice to balance both.
Q: What will you miss most about your experience as a Charger?
A: I enjoyed being at study hall and getting to talk to Jim and always getting advice from him. Seeing my teammates here too, I feel like the study hall was a cool place to hang out and of course do homework.
