Lady Chargers Knock Off Vikings, 2-1

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress women's soccer team (3-0) remain undefeated after their first home game of the season on Wednesday against the Long Beach City Vikings. The Chargers managed to come out on top in the back-and-forth battle to win over the Vikings, 2-1.

Both teams came out ready with strong defensive sides, setting a competitive, physical stage for the matchup. After a slow start, Chargers' freshman forward, Hunter Richmond, found the back of the net, (19:51) to give her team the go-ahead goal. The remainder of the half was quiet for both teams, allowing the Chargers to hang on to their lead and finish the first half up 1-0.

The Vikings came out determined in the second half tying it up in the 50th minute from a successful shot by the Vikings' freshman forward, Nathaly Silva. Quickly, the Chargers answered back with an Audree Campos goal (52:46) giving Cypress the lead again. After several of Viking corner kicks late in the game Cypress goalie, Violet Martin, and the Charger defense had a pair of saves to lock in their victory, 2-1.

Cypress College women's soccer will be heading to the Bay Area this weekend to face Foothill on Friday at 1:30pm and Evergreen Valley on Saturday at 12:00pm.
