Lady Chargers Knock Off No. 10 Fullerton, 3-0

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's soccer team (4-3-2, 2-1-1 OEC) rolled through No. 10 Fullerton College (5-2-1, 2-1-1 OEC) at home on Friday. The Chargers used a balanced offensive attack and tough defense to shutout the Hornets, 3-0.

Cypress came ready to play against their district rival, as freshman forward Morgan Patea put the ball in the back of the net for the go ahead goal on the team's first shot attempt of the game.

Up by one, the Chargers earned a corner kick in the 27th minute. The corner was taken by freshman midfielder Elena Lucero, who drilled a nice cross into the box, finding fellow freshman Raquel Gonzales, who sent a header into the back of the net. The Chargers would hang on to their lead and finish the first half up 2-0.

The Hornets defense continued to feel the pressure of the Chargers' offensive attack in the second half. A cross from Patea and finish from Lucero would give the Chargers a 3-0 lead over the Hornets.

The Cypress defense remained tight and unbreakable throughout the two halves, as they only allowed five shots on goal through 90 minutes. Jordan Barber, Brianna Camacho, and goalkeeper Tabatha Macedo, who earned her third clean sheet of the season, led the Charger defense.

Women's soccer will head into the weekend 2-1-1 in the OEC play as they prepare to take on Irvine Valley College on Tuesday, September 25, followed by Orange Coast College on Friday, September 28. Both games are on the road scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
