Chargers Dominate Dons at Home, 3-0

By Wes McCurtis

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's soccer team moved into second place in the OEC after a dominant 3-0 victory over visiting Santa Ana College on Friday afternoon. The win gives the Chargers a 6-4-1 overall record and a 5-1-1 record in conference play, which is identical to first place Santiago Canyon.

Chargers' sophomore Kristen Nolan opened up the scoring for Cypress in the first half (29:49). Renae Francis got a shot off in the box that went off the hands of Santa Ana keeper Breana Martinez, but Nolan was in perfect position to score on the rebound, giving Cypress a 1-0 lead.

Cypress added a second goal to their total at the 58-minute mark when sophomore Jade Jasso put one past the keeper on a perfectly played ball from freshman Demie Galvez. With a 2-0 advantage, Mary Dynda put the game out of reach at the 67-minute mark as she drilled a free kick over the outstretched arms of Martinez to put the Chargers up 3-0.

Despite physical play from the Dons late in the game, the Lady Chargers kept their composure and completed their shutout victory, allowing just 4 shots on goal for the game.

Women's soccer will return to action at home on Tuesday in a big match-up against district rival Fullerton College. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
