Late Zuniga Goal Propels Cypress Past Pirates, 2-1

COSTA MESA, CA – The Cypress College women's soccer team (5-4-1, 4-1-1 OEC) moved up the Orange Empire Conference standings with a big victory on the road over Orange Coast College (5-2-4, 3-1-2 OEC) on Tuesday, 2-1.

Sophomore Margaret Zisk opened the scoring at the ten-minute mark assisted by Kristin Avila, giving Cypress an early 1-0 lead. The Chargers' defense kept the Pirates offense in check most of the game, limiting Orange Coast to just four shots and holding them scoreless in the first half.

Clinging to a 1-0 lead, the Chargers' defense allowed an unassisted equalizer from the Pirates' Lupe Rodriguez (80:00).

It seemed as though a tie was inevitable as they entered the second minute of a four-minute stoppage time. However, sophomore Kristen Nolan found fellow 2016 All-OEC selection Julissa Zuniga, who put the Chargers ahead with a chip shot over OCC keeper Alison Harlow to win the game.

Women's soccer will return to Orange Empire Conference action at home this Friday against Santa Ana. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
