Six Women's Soccer Players Named To All-Conference Team

The Orange Empire Conference named six Chargers from the Cypress College women's soccer program to the 2015 All-Conference team. Paulina Serna, Layla Silva, and Karla Lopez were listed on the All-Conference First Team. Kristy Avila, Citaly Gomez, and Alexis Fuerte were named on the All-Conference Second Team.

Sophomore goalkeeper Paulina Serna had a solid year in front of the post, allowing only 13 total goals this season for an average of 0.77 goals allowed per game. She also compiled 35 total saves for a 72.9% save percentage.

Team leading scorer, Karla Lopez, concluded her Chargers career with 13 goals in 20 games played. The sophomore winger also had a phenomenal run of form during October when she scored at least a goal in six consecutive games, including a hat trick against Santa Ana on October 23rd.

The sophomore midfielder Layla Silva had five goals and an assist this season, but was honored for her contributions outside the stat sheet. Silva was integral for helping the Chargers keep possession in the middle of the field and providing support to both wingers on the attacking half of the pitch.

Freshman midfielder Kristin Avila earned her way to all conference second team after playing a key role in the Chargers' winning record. Despite scoring only four goals and collecting two assists, Avila was a reliable ball-winner who was difficult to dispossess in the midfield. She brought stability on both defense and offense for the Chargers.

Fullback Alexis Fuerte and center back Citaly Gomez were named to the second team for their outstanding play on defense. Both players were crucial to helping Cypress become the second best defense in conference and tenth in state with an average 0.65 goals allowed per game.
