Cypress Bounces Back With 8-0 Win Over Santa Ana

Cypress- The Cypress College women's soccer team (12-3, 8-3 OEC) was able to bounce back with an 8-0 win at home over Santa Ana College (5-10, 1-9 OEC) on Friday afternoon.

After suffering a heartbreaking loss to Saddleback earlier this week the Chargers responded on their home field against the visiting Dons. Cypress dominated the game, taking 22 shots with 19 shots on goal compared to the Dons 2 shots.

Gissel Avila got the Chargers going on offense with a steal leading to a breakaway goal to put Cypress up 1-0. One minute later Taylor Jones booted a free kick that was blocked by Santa Ana keeper Joey Martinez, but Layla Silva was there to find the back of the net on the rebound to make it a 2-0 game.

Karla Lopez put it past the Dons keeper three consecutive times for the chargers to give Cypress a 5-0 lead early in the second half. Lopez is the first Cypress player to score 3 goals in a game this season. Karina Romero would add to the Cypress lead in the 54th minute followed by two more goals from Andrea Castro to put the Dons away 8-0.

Third place Cypress will look to take down first place Santiago Canyon (13-1-1, 10-1 OEC) at Santiago Canyon on Tuesday, October 27th. Santiago Canyon defeated Cypress 3-1 in their first meeting on September 25th.
