Chargers Earn 4th Straight Shutout Victory

Cypress- The Cypress College women's soccer team (10-2, 6-2 OEC) defeated visiting Fullerton College (4-7-2, 3-4-2 OEC) 6-0 to earn their fourth straight shutout victory.

The Chargers controlled the game from start to finish, tallying 25 shots with 19 shots on goal, while holding the Hornets to only 1 shot. Cypress jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Kailey Merino drilled a shot from outside the box on a Gissel Avila assist. Cypress would add two unassisted goals in the first half, as Taylor Jones found the back of the net in the 11th minute and Layla Silva slotted one past the keeper in the 21st minute.

Early in the second half Taylor Jones scored her second goal of the game after the initial shot was deflected by Fullerton Keeper Mallory Van Voorhis, who finished with 11 saves. Karla Lopez and Karina Romero added the finishing touches on a strong showing for the Chargers, as each found the back of the net in later in the second half.

The Chargers will look to add to their 4 game win streak when the host Golden West on Friday, October 16 at 1:00 pm.
