Chargers Fall to 0-2 at Home

Cypress Calif.- The Cypress College women's soccer team (6-2, 2-2) fall to the first place Santiago Canyon Hawks (7-0-1, 4-0) with a final score of 3-1.

The Chargers had an opportunity to move into first place with a win at home but instead fall to 2-2 in conference play and are now 0-2 at home. Santiago Canyon came out firing on all cylinders, taking a 2-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. Alondra Guzman netted the first goal for the Hawks followed up by a quick goal from Kylie Klein, both unassisted.

The Chargers fought hard to get back in the game but had no answer for the Hawks high powered offensive attack. Kylie Klein found the back of the net for a second time (15:35) thanks to an assist from Brooke Mays. However, the Chargers were able to gain some momentum after Kailey Merino put Cypress on the board (22:45) to make it 3-1. Merino's goal was the first allowed by the Hawks in conference play this season, ending their streak of three straight shut outs.

The Chargers would continue to try and climb their way back in the second half but it wasn't enough. Both teams went scoreless in the second half and Santiago Canyon would go on to win 3-1. The Chargers will look to bounce back at home on Friday, October 2nd against Irvine Valley at 3:00 pm.
